Crunch (Machine)
Trains the abdominals. You need a machine. None of our programs use it yet, but you can add it to any session you build.
Free to use. The app works out every weight and times your rest.
None of our programs use the Crunch (Machine)
It is in the app, so you can add it to any session and log it like anything else. It is just not written into one of our 50 free programs. If you want a abdominals exercise that is, there are 9 on the Abdominals page.
What Crunch (Machine) trains
How to do the Crunch (Machine)
- Sit on the crunch machine with your back against the pad and your feet secured under the footpads. Grasp the handles or position the chest pad according to the machine design.
- Contract your abdominals to curl your torso forward and down, bringing your chest toward your hips.
- Pause briefly at the point of full contraction.
- Slowly return to the upright starting position with control, keeping tension on your abs. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Getting it right
- Curl your spine rather than hinging at the hips; the movement should come from your abs.
- Exhale fully as you crunch forward to maximize the contraction.
- Avoid pulling hard with your arms; they should only rest on the handles.
- Choose a weight that allows a slow, controlled return without the stack slamming down.

The app's swap picker ranks these the same way: same muscles, similar movement, similar equipment.
Let the app run the Crunch (Machine) for you
Durata picks the weight, times your rest and adds load when you earn it. That works on any of our 50 free programs, or on a session you put together yourself.
