GZCL UHF

Also known as: gzcl · uhf · ultra high frequency · gzcl uhf · cody lefever · high frequency

Cody Lefever's Ultra High Frequency block — five days a week, five weeks, with every competition lift (or a close variant) trained multiple times per week. Bench and pressing get the most exposure, squats three times, deadlifts twice. The T1 main lift waves with an AMRAP top set every session; a T2 variation builds volume off its own max, and T3 accessories chase a descending rep-max. All percentages are of your 1RM — set true maxes on start, then retest and re-run. A high-frequency peaking block for advanced lifters who recover well.

What is GZCL UHF?

UHF stands for Ultra High Frequency, and it's exactly that: Cody Lefever's five-week, five-day GZCL block where the point is practising the lifts far more often than a normal split allows. In GZCL terms, every exercise slot is graded by specificity and load — the T1 slot holds the day's heaviest, most competition-specific barbell work, the T2 slot holds a moderate-load variation of a different movement pattern, and T3 is accessory volume. Because the T2 always comes from the opposite half of the body, the squat pattern ends up trained three times a week (back squat, pause squat, front squat), the deadlift twice (the pull itself plus Romanian deadlifts), and pressing up to six times across bench, incline barbell and dumbbell work, close-grip bench and overhead press.

The week runs Monday to Friday: squat, bench, deadlift, incline bench, front squat, each as that day's T1. Every T1 finishes on a plus set, so you get a small readiness test five days a week, and the whole routine compresses what most programs spread over twelve weeks into a five-week wave that ends with max singles.

Is GZCL UHF right for you?

This is the advanced entry in the GZCL lineup, and the frequency is the filter. If you can train five days a week, recover quickly, and already handle percentage work near 90% without falling apart, UHF is a sharp short peak before a meet or a max test. If any of those aren't true, don't force it — the Rippler delivers a longer, gentler wave on four days, and Jacked & Tan 2.0 covers the volume-first months. It also assumes accurate current maxes on five different barbell lifts, so it rewards lifters with a deep training log.

How progression works

Everything is a percentage of the true 1RM you set on day one; the block is too short for mid-cycle adjustments, so the wave is pre-baked. T1 climbs 3×4 at 81% in week one and 4×3 at 86% in week two, wave-loads in week three (a triple at 83%, a double at 88%, then singles at 93%), hits flat heavy singles at 90% in week four, and peaks in week five with a triple at 86%, a double at 90% and a max single from 95% — every working week capped by a plus set. The T2 variation builds the opposite way — sets of 10 at 57% down to fives at around 72%, an AMRAP top set on the week-four reset, then a single light opener in week five. T3 accessories chase max-rep sets against a shrinking target and a shrinking set count: five sets at 12–15, five at 10–12, four at 8–10, three at 6–8, then one final set. Durata seeds all five maxes from your logged e1RM and runs the tier-appropriate rest timers, which matters when Tuesday's volume decides Friday's bar speed.

Percentages are of your training max (TM). AMRAP = as many reps as possible on the final set.

GZCL UHF — common questions

How is UHF different from the rest of the GZCL family?

Frequency and length. GZCLP and Jacked & Tan 2.0 touch each main lift about twice a week and run indefinitely; the Rippler waves each lift once a week for twelve weeks. UHF trains the squat pattern three times and the press pattern up to six times weekly, and compresses the entire climb-and-peak into five weeks.

Should the percentages come from a training max?

No — use genuine, recent 1RMs for all five T1 lifts, including incline bench and front squat. Week three already asks for five doubles at 88%, so a padded max breaks the block early. If a lift's max is stale, take the e1RM from a recent top set instead.

Five heavy days in a row — how do I survive it?

The design does most of the work: T1 intensity is high but the volume is modest, the T2s are 60–75% loads on a different pattern, and the T3 rep targets drop as the weeks get heavier. Your job is the boring part — sleep, eat at maintenance or above, and don't add extra accessories in week one because it felt easy.

What if I miss a day mid-block?

Shift the week rather than skipping the session — each day's T1 appears only once, so a skipped Wednesday means the deadlift wave loses a step. Sliding everything back a day or two costs nothing in a five-week plan.

What do I do when the five weeks are up?

Take the week-five singles as your new maxes, then step back into volume — most lifters alternate UHF with a longer block like the Rippler or a hypertrophy phase rather than running UHF back-to-back.
