60-Day Cut

Also known as: fat loss · cut · 60 day · 8 week · lose fat · deficit · conditioning · get lean

An eight-week cut built on dumbbells and machines — a deliberately fresh set of exercises from the 28-Day Shred so nothing feels stale if you run them back to back. Three full-body sessions preserve muscle; three ramping cardio sessions (steady cycling, rowing intervals and an incline walk) grow week by week. The fat loss still comes from the kitchen: hold a calorie deficit with high protein (~1.6–2.2 g/kg). Reposition the cardio to whichever days suit you.

What is 60-Day Cut?

The 60-Day Cut is an eight-week fat-loss block for people who want a proper diet phase rather than a crash. Six days a week: three full-body lifting sessions to defend your muscle through the deficit, and three cardio sessions that expand week over week to keep the energy expenditure climbing as your body adapts. The lifting is built entirely on dumbbells, cables and machines — goblet squats, dumbbell bench, rows, reverse lunges, Bulgarian split squats — a deliberately different exercise pool from the barbell-based 28-Day Shred, so running the two back to back never feels like a rerun.

The three cardio days each ramp on their own schedule. A steady cycle grows from 25 to 60 minutes across the eight weeks, an incline walk from 30 to 65, and a rowing interval session from 15 to 36 minutes — with the intervals themselves getting harder, not just longer, as work periods stretch from 30 toward 45 seconds and the recoveries compress. Five easy minutes of steady rowing open and close every interval day. Like all of Durata's fat-loss challenges, it's a fixed-length program: eight weeks in, done, out.

Is 60-Day Cut right for you?

This is the middle step of the fat-loss track — the right length when you have a realistic amount of fat to lose and enough patience to lose it without starving. No barbell is required anywhere in the program, which makes it a natural fit for a commercial gym at peak hours or a well-equipped home setup. Six training days is a real commitment, though: if your week can't absorb that, run the shorter 28-day block instead. And the usual honesty applies — the sessions preserve muscle and burn some calories, but the deficit you hold in the kitchen is what actually gets you lean.

How progression works

Every lift follows double progression: same weight until all sets reach the ceiling of the rep range (mostly 10–15 here, higher-rep than a barbell program because dumbbell and machine work tolerates it), then a 2.5 kg bump and back to the floor of the range. Two misses at a weight triggers a 10% reset. The cardio increases are baked into each week's session, so there are no decisions to make mid-block. Pair it with a 300–500 kcal deficit and 1.6–2.2 g of protein per kg of bodyweight, and log the food — Durata's nutrition tracking sits alongside the workouts, and its logger auto-chains the rowing intervals so the timer runs the session for you.

Double: reach rep ceiling on all sets → +2.5 kg, deload 10% after 2 missesCardio: 25 min/weekCardio: 15 min/weekCardio: 30 min/week

Durata runs this progression for you — every session's weights are computed automatically from your training maxes and logged AMRAP sets.

60-Day Cut — common questions

Do I need a barbell for the 60-Day Cut?

No — every exercise uses dumbbells, cables or machines. That's a deliberate design choice: it keeps the program runnable in a crowded gym, and it makes the exercise pool completely distinct from the 28-Day Shred so the two blocks chain together without repetition.

Six days a week — is there any flexibility?

Yes. The three lifting days want roughly a day between them, but the cycle, rowing and walking sessions are separate entries you can drag to any day in the planner, including doubling up with a lift if mornings and evenings both work for you. One full rest day per week stays untouched.

How big should my calorie deficit be?

Around 300–500 kcal below maintenance, with protein at 1.6–2.2 g per kg of bodyweight. That paces out to roughly 0.5–0.75% of bodyweight lost per week — 4 to 6 kg over the eight weeks for most people — which is about as fast as you can go while keeping the muscle you're training to protect.

Why does the cardio get so long by week eight?

Two reasons: your conditioning improves, so the same 25 minutes stops costing what it used to, and your body quietly reduces day-to-day movement in a deficit. The ramp — up to 60-minute rides and 65-minute walks by the final week — is the counterweight. If a week's dose is unrecoverable, hold the previous week's numbers rather than skipping sessions.

What comes after the 60 days?

If you reached your target, move to maintenance calories and a building program — keeping the new bodyweight steady for a few weeks matters more than what you lift. If there's further to go, the 90-Day Transformation is the next step on the track, with a third, again completely fresh, mix of exercises.
