What Sit Up (Weighted) trains
How to do the Sit Up (Weighted)
- Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, holding a weight plate or dumbbell against your chest with both hands.
- Engage your core and curl your torso upward, lifting your shoulders and back off the floor until you are sitting upright, keeping the weight held firmly against your chest.
- Pause briefly at the top of the movement.
- Slowly lower your torso back to the floor with control. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.
Getting it right
- Hold the weight firmly against your chest throughout to keep the resistance consistent.
- Exhale as you sit up and inhale as you lower back down.
- Lower yourself slowly; the controlled descent is where much of the benefit comes from.
- Start with a light weight and increase gradually as your core strength improves.
