Jump Squat (Barbell)
Trains the quadriceps, with help from the hamstrings, glutes and calves. You need a barbell. None of our programs use it yet, but you can add it to any session you build.
Free to use. The app works out every weight and times your rest.
How to do the Jump Squat (Barbell)
- Set a light barbell across your upper back as you would for a squat, feet at your squat stance.
- Dip quickly into a shallow squat, keeping your chest up and your back tight.
- Drive up through your whole foot as fast as you can and leave the floor.
- Land softly on the balls of your feet, bend your knees to absorb the landing, reset and repeat.
Getting it right
- Use a light load: the aim is speed and height, not weight.
- Hold the bar tight to your back so it does not bounce on landing.
- Jump as high as you can on every rep rather than going through the motions.
- Land with your knees tracking over your toes, never caving in.
