What Walking Lunge (Dumbbell) trains
How to do the Walking Lunge (Dumbbell)
- Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides with your palms facing your body.
- Step forward with your right leg and lower your body until your right thigh is parallel to the floor and your left knee hovers just above the floor.
- Push through your right heel and bring your left leg forward, stepping directly into the next lunge on the left side.
- Continue alternating legs, walking forward with each lunge, for the desired number of repetitions.
Getting it right
- Keep the dumbbells hanging at your sides and your shoulders back; avoid letting the weights pull you forward.
- Keep your front knee aligned over your ankle to protect your knee joint.
- Take your time between steps to stay balanced under the added load.
- Exhale as you drive up out of each lunge and inhale as you lower down.
