What Leg Press Horizontal (Machine) trains
How to do the Leg Press Horizontal (Machine)
- Sit on the horizontal leg press machine with your back and head against the backrest, and place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform. Grip the handles at your sides.
- Release the safety handles and push the platform away by extending your knees and hips until your legs are almost straight, without locking your knees.
- Slowly bend your knees to return the platform toward you until your knees form roughly a 90-degree angle.
- Press back out through your heels. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, then re-engage the safety handles.
Getting it right
- Never lock your knees at full extension; keep a slight bend to protect your joints.
- Keep your lower back and hips pressed against the seat throughout the movement.
- Exhale as you press the platform away and inhale as you return.
- Push through your heels rather than your toes to engage your glutes and hamstrings along with your quadriceps.
