Deadlift (Smith Machine)
Trains the hamstrings, with help from the quadriceps, lower back and glutes. You need a machine. None of our programs use it yet, but you can add it to any session you build.
Free to use. The app works out every weight and times your rest.
None of our programs use the Deadlift (Smith Machine)
It is in the app, so you can add it to any session and log it like anything else. It is just not written into one of our 50 free programs. If you want a hamstrings exercise that is, there are 11 on the Hamstrings page.
What Deadlift (Smith Machine) trains
How to do the Deadlift (Smith Machine)
- Set the smith machine bar to its lowest position and stand with your feet hip-width apart, the bar over your mid-foot. Grip the bar with an overhand grip just outside your legs.
- Rotate the bar to unrack it, then hinge at your hips with your knees bent, back flat, and chest up.
- Drive through your heels and extend your hips and knees to stand up straight, keeping the bar close to your legs.
- Lower the bar back down with control by hinging at your hips and bending your knees. Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, then rotate the bar to rack it.
Getting it right
- Keep your back flat and core braced throughout the lift.
- Position your feet so the fixed bar path lets the bar travel close to your legs.
- Drive your hips forward at the top without leaning back excessively.
- Exhale as you stand up and inhale as you lower the bar.
